When Your SP Tells You the Complete Opposite of What You’ve Been Assuming
One reader was imagining a happy marriage with his specific person when she told him she was already married and saw him only as a friend. My grandmother’s response raises a question that goes far beyond SP manifestation: what happens when you have made a decision internally and the world gives you information you never wanted to receive?

A reader recently wrote to my grandmother about something that had shaken his understanding of the Law. He gave us permission to turn their exchange into an article, so I want to share the question before we get into Grandma’s response.
He had been assuming that his specific person was his wife, that she loved him deeply, and that they were happy together. He had also made a decision about conflicting thoughts: he would no longer worry about them or treat every unwanted thought as something that needed correcting. He felt that he was finally practicing the Law with more freedom and certainty.
Then, a few days before writing to us, the woman told him she was married and saw him only as a friend.
He ended his submission by saying that he was affirming regardless, although his faith had understandably been shaken.
I expected Grandma to begin by discussing persistence. Instead, she became interested in the fact that he described the conversation as the complete opposite showing up. She wanted to know what, exactly, had become opposite to what he believed, and why one conversation had suddenly made him question the entire practice he thought he understood.
What follows is her response, expanded from the original exchange.
“You have received information. Now you are trying to turn it into a verdict.”
My dear, I want to begin with the part of your submission that concerns me most. You were feeling confident in your assumptions, and then this woman told you something you did not expect. Now you are looking at the conversation as though it has revealed the true condition of your manifestation, and you are trying to decide what you must do to recover the certainty you had before she spoke.
I understand why your faith feels shaken. You were imagining a marriage, and she told you that she is married to someone else and sees you as a friend. I would not expect you to hear that and feel absolutely nothing. You are a person with feelings, and you wanted a different answer.
But I want you to notice what happened immediately afterward. You began questioning whether you had been doing well, whether your decision about conflicting thoughts was correct, and whether you now needed to affirm regardless of what you had heard. One conversation has become the event by which you are reviewing your entire internal life.
That is the part I would like you to examine.
