There is one thing my grandmother will almost always interrupt when someone in our family is talking about a person they want.

She listens to the desire. She lets you tell her what has happened, what hasn’t happened, what the person said, what you wish they would say, and whatever other information you have decided is extremely important.

Then she listens to how you imagine the relationship and this is usually where she stops you.
